Once again Pikes Peak ARES used Winlink in the Packet P2P mode at 9600 bd to support the Pikes Peak Cycling Hill Climb. Winlink was used to transfer 20 files from the 14,115 ft summit down to the awards/staging area at 9,400 ft. It is only a 12.5 mile drive (5.6 miles Line Of Sight), but has over 155 turns and takes about 30-40 minutes to drive the results down, plus there would be cyclists on the road. Same course as driven during the world famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, just on bicycles (and the occasional unicycle).
"Upgraded" from KPC-3+ TNC to VARA FM, now active on 144.950MHz in the Olympia, WA area. Using a Yaesu FT-2900R and a dual band antenna at 30 ft. Possibility of UHF operations in the future.
