W7YAM-11 Fully Configured and is Now Comparable to All W7YAM VHF/UHF Gateways

Earlier this month W7YAM-11 was upgraded it to be a dual mode gateway, supporting both PACKET and VARA FM. on 144.920 MHz. This week, RMS Relay was added and configured so that in case of internet outage the gateway will behave as a Post Office. During internet outages, messages for a recipient will be stored and can be received by the recipient when they connect to that gateway.

Both PACKET and VARA FM can also perform as a digipeater as W7YAM-6. This is the final step for all the W7YAM RMS gateways. All VHF and UHF W7YAM gateways can now be a digipeater under the W7YAM-6 callsign. Frequencies supported at the various locations in Yamhill County are 145.090, 144.970, 144.920 and 441.050 MHz.

Prior to the upgrade I was unable to connect to the W7YAM-11 PACKET Gateway from my QTH. With the higher decoding ability of VARA FM with weak signals, I can connect and have a quite workable connection, with better throughput than 1200 baud PACKET can have at its best.
