W7OWO HF Trimode is Now Available. Enhancements Have Been Made.
After resolving the issues, the W7OWO HF Trimode Gateway is back in service. Issues were discovered during multiple short term power outages during our 01/ 13/2024 ice storm. Approximately 1 inch of ice still on pavement as of writing. Power outages gave plenty of testing opportunities for reliability.
Enhancements:
During internet outage, it will hold messages until the Internet is restored.
While messages are being held, it acts as a Post Office in such that if the Recipient connects to the Gateway held messages to the recipient are delivered.
The RMS Relay providing this service is shared with the UHF W7OWO-10 RMS Packet Gateway, allowing recipients to alternatively receive via the UHF RMS Packet Gateway. W7OW0-10 at 441.000 MHz is a dual mode gateway and supports both Packet and VARA FM.
Both RMS Packet and Trimode gateways were updated to the latest versions of VARA.
W7OWO stations use a deep cycle marine battery for power backup with a now fully tested automatic failover from commercial power. Estimate about 25 hours of service strictly on battery.
Replaced aging support rope for wire antenna and was able to get a few more feet of elevation relocating the anchor on the North side.
At this time the Internet will fail in prolonged power outages. Saving up funds for a battery solution for POE form the WIFI Bridge and a DC Ethernet switch.
