W4UVA out of service due to rock slide

Don't hear that one every day! Work to clear a rock slide near the building required disconnecting the antenna and getting the coax out of the way. Should be back on the air shortly after the work is complete.

W4UVA-10 UHF channel configured for VARA FM (WIDE)

I am pleased to announce availability of the UHF channel on W4UVA-10. It is presently configured for VARA FM (WIDE). Coverage is spotty due to the antenna location, but I plan to move the antenna to the tower when the weather cools off a bit. That should help quite a bit.

W4UVA-10 back in service, new and improved

I am delighted to announce that, at long last, W4UVA-10 is back in service. The new configuration on 2m is dual-mode AX.25 (using UZ7HO Soundmodem with FX.25 enabled) and VARA FM (narrow). Remember that unlike AX.25 packet - which supports multiple stations on the frequency simultaneously - VARA FM wants the frequency to itself with just two stations talking to each other. No mixing AX.25 and VARA FM, either. Listen-before-transmit is essential.

My plan is to add a 70cm channel with VARA FM (wide) and perhaps high-speed packet. Coming soon...
